Wellness Tips
Make the most of your wellness experience.
Altitude acclimatisation is important before spa treatments in the Atacama (2,400m) — arrive a day early, drink plenty of water, and avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours before any massage or thermal experience.
Chilean thermal hot springs (termas) are abundant throughout the Lake District and Patagonia — always check water temperature carefully as some natural pools can reach scalding levels.
Many hotel spas in Santiago offer significantly better prices when booked at least 48 hours in advance or as part of a package with accommodation.
Termas Geométricas and other popular thermal resorts sell out during summer (Dec-Feb) and long weekends — book online weeks in advance.
Santiago's air quality can be poor in winter (May-Aug) due to temperature inversion — if you have respiratory conditions, avoid outdoor exercise in the city during these months and choose indoor spa activities.
The Atacama Desert's extreme UV radiation makes outdoor yoga or wellness activities dangerous between 10 AM and 3 PM — schedule outdoor sessions for early morning or late afternoon.
