The city's most-used hill walk climbs from Bellavista to the Virgin statue at the top of Parque Metropolitano, with Andes views over the whole basin.

Cerro San Cristobal rises 300 m above central Santiago inside Parque Metropolitano, one of the largest urban parks in Latin America. The walk from the Pio Nono gate follows the paved Camino Pedestre and the older dirt switchbacks beside it up to the Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion, where a 14 m white Virgin statue marks the summit. The grade is steady rather than steep, and runners, cyclists and families share the route, so it is a safe solo walk in daylight. On clear days after rain the Andes appear behind the skyline; in summer the smog layer often hides them by midday. The return can be on foot, by the Funicular (Pio Nono to Terraza Bellavista) or by the Teleferico. The park is open Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays, roughly 06:00 to 20:00, but hours change by season, so confirm on the Parquemet website before going.
