A guided multi-day ascent of the 5,856 m stratovolcano on the Chile-Argentina border for experienced and fit climbers.
Volcan San Jose is a classic acclimatisation and technical climbing objective at the head of the Cajon del Maipo. Guided expeditions usually take 2 to 4 days, with a camp at the Piedra Numerada area and a summit push over glaciers and scree. Ascents require high-altitude experience, equipment and guides, and are only practical in summer. Several Santiago operators run guided climbs; confirm technical requirements and permit rules with the operator.
| Price | Roughly CLP 400,000-900,000 per person (about USD 430-960); confirm with operators |
