Niagara Falls, straddling the Ontario-New York border, comprises three distinct waterfalls — Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls — with Horseshoe Falls carrying the vast majority of water and standing as the most powerful waterfall in North America by flow rate. Visitors standing on the Canadian side at Table Rock experience the full 57-metre drop of Horseshoe Falls at close range, with mist soaking anyone who lingers. The Hornblower Niagara Cruises boat (now Niagara City Cruises) sails into the mist basin directly below the cataract, offering a fully immersive perspective that photographs barely capture. Journey Behind the Falls tunnels through the bedrock to observation portals just metres from the curtain of water, revealing the sheer volume and vibration of the flow from behind. Above ground, Queen Victoria Park runs along the gorge lip and provides unobstructed sightlines at every hour. The Skylon Tower observation deck, 160 metres above the falls, reframes the scene as landscape rather than spectacle. After dark, coordinated illumination in rotating colours plays across the mist plume; Saturday evenings in summer close with fireworks above the gorge. The adjacent Clifton Hill entertainment strip is loud and commercial, best avoided by visitors focused on the natural phenomenon itself. Parking lots near Table Rock fill by mid-morning in July and August; the WEGO bus pass covers all key stops and is the most efficient way to move between sites.
