🌸 Spring

Mar-May

Long rainy season with heavy afternoon downpours and lush green landscapes. Humidity is high in Bujumbura and roads to rural areas can become impassable. Waterfalls like Karera are at maximum flow and spectacular.

Tips: Pack a rain jacket and waterproof bag. Focus on city attractions if visiting. Book accommodation in advance as some roads wash out.

Main dry season and the best time to visit Burundi. Clear skies, manageable temperatures in the highlands, and dry roads make all attractions accessible. Perfect for hiking, wildlife watching, and national park visits.

Tips: Book accommodations well in advance especially for July (Independence Day). Bring sun protection for highland hikes where UV is intense.

Short rainy season with more moderate rainfall than the long rains. The landscape remains green and beautiful. October rains are typically afternoon showers leaving mornings clear — activities manageable with flexibility.
