Bar Astor occupies a corner building in Vila Madalena, one of São Paulo's most established residential-turned-nightlife neighborhoods, and has built its reputation over decades as a serious cocktail bar rather than a themed lounge. The crowd runs from local professionals finishing the workday to visitors seeking a classic drink; dress is casual to smart-casual, with no dress code enforced, and the age range typically spans mid-20s to 50s. Sidewalk tables fill early on weeknights, and the atmosphere stays lively but conversational rather than club-loud. There is no dedicated stage or DJ booth; recorded music plays at a background level that supports conversation rather than dancing. The drinks programme centers on classic cocktails made to traditional recipes -- caipirinhas, negronis, martinis, and a rotating list of seasonal variations -- alongside a solid selection of ice-cold Brazilian and imported beers; wine is available but is a secondary focus. Kitchen snacks (petiscos) are served to accompany drinks. Hours run from midday through the afternoon into the night, extending later on Thursday through Saturday (until around 1:30AM) than on Monday through Wednesday, when the bar closes earlier. There is no cover charge at any point in the week. Reservations are not typically required or taken for the bar seating; walk-ins claim sidewalk and indoor tables on a first-come basis, and on Friday and Saturday nights arriving before 8PM avoids a wait for a table.
