Estádio do Pacaembu

Estádio do Pacaembu is a 1940 Art Deco municipal stadium in the Pacaembu district that hosted decades of São Paulo club football, national team matches and major concerts before entering a long-term redevelopment into a mixed-use sports and entertainment complex. As of 2026, the stadium itself remains closed to the public during construction, but the stadium's landmarked Art Deco facade and the surrounding Praça Charles Miller, named for the Scottish-Brazilian credited with introducing football to Brazil, remain freely viewable from the street. The plaza and facade are worth a stop of twenty to thirty minutes for the architecture alone, with the symmetrical concrete facade and rounded corner towers characteristic of 1940s Brazilian civic Art Deco design. Because the stadium and the adjoining Museu do Futebol are both closed during redevelopment, visitors should treat a visit here as an exterior architecture and history stop rather than an events destination, and check current reopening status before planning around the venue. The surrounding Pacaembu neighborhood, one of São Paulo's more affluent residential districts, is worth a short walk for its own Art Deco apartment buildings from the same era.
