Audi Camp Gweta Lodge

Audi Camp sits in the centre of Gweta village on the A3 highway, approximately 250 km east of Maun and 170 km west of Francistown, making it the natural overnight stop for travellers crossing Botswana's central corridor by road or overlanding vehicle. The village is the primary gateway to the Makgadikgadi Pans, one of the largest salt flat systems in the world, and to Nxai Pan National Park, a further 50 km to the north on the A3.

The accommodation range is the most varied of any property in the Central District. Basic en suite rooms are clean and functional, sleeping two adults with a fan and minimal furnishings. Larger rooms are available for families. The expansive campsite has serviced pitches for overland trucks, campervans, and independent tents, with shared ablution blocks kept to a reasonable standard. Ready-erected dome tents are available for travellers without their own gear. All accommodation accesses the shared swimming pool and a shaded braai area equipped with communal grills.

The social centre of the property — and arguably of Gweta itself — is the famous baobab bar, a thatched open-air drinking area built around the base of an enormous ancient baobab tree. The bar has been a fixture on the southern Africa overland circuit since the 1990s, and the surrounding terrace fills each evening with travellers comparing routes. The adjacent restaurant serves grilled meats, stews, omelettes, and vegetarian plates at prices well below those of Maun lodges.

Activities arranged through the lodge include guided quad bike rides across the Makgadikgadi salt pans at dawn, guided 4x4 day trips to Nxai Pan to view the seasonal zebra migration and resident meerkats at the Jack's Camp study colony, and San Bushmen cultural walks with local guides. A small shop sells snacks, cold drinks, and basic camping supplies.
