Mountain roads are narrow with steep drop-offs, hairpin turns, and no guardrails on many sections. Avoid night driving and always wear a seatbelt.
Landslides frequently close roads during monsoon season (June-August), sometimes for hours or days. Build flexibility into your itinerary during this period.
Ask your hotel to book taxis in advance for airport transfers and day trips - taxis cannot be hailed on the street in all areas of Thimphu.
