Climate Overview

Belarus has a continental climate with cold, snowy winters and warm summers. Winters (December-February) are cold with temperatures often dropping to -10°C to -20°C and reliable snowfall. Summers (June-August) are warm and pleasant at 20-26°C with long daylight hours. Spring and autumn are mild with rain, offering pleasant conditions for sightseeing. The country receives moderate rainfall year-round with slightly wetter conditions in summer.

🌸 Spring

Mar-May

Temperatures rise from near-freezing in March to 15-18°C by May. Apple and cherry blossom season in May transforms parks beautifully. Mud season in March-April on trails.

Tips: Pack layers — mornings cold, afternoons mild. May is the best spring month for visiting.

☀️ Summer

Jun-Aug

Warm and pleasant at 20-26°C with very long daylight hours (sunrise before 5AM, sunset after 9PM). Occasional thunderstorms. Peak travel season for festivals.

Tips: Bring mosquito repellent for forests and wetlands. Book accommodation early — summer events fill Minsk. Stay hydrated during heatwaves.

Sep-Nov

September is excellent with warm days (15-20°C) and stunning autumn foliage in forests. October brings cooler, rainy weather. November increasingly cold approaching winter.

Tips: September is arguably the best month overall. Pack a waterproof jacket for October. Mushroom season makes forest walks especially rewarding.

Dec-Feb

Cold with temperatures regularly below -10°C and occasional deep freezes to -25°C. Reliable snow cover from December-February. Cities beautifully decorated for New Year. Cross-country skiing season.

Tips: Dress in proper winter layers — thermal base, insulating mid-layer, waterproof outer. Hand warmers useful. Indoor attractions a priority in severe cold.

Kupalle (Ivan Kupala Night)

Ancient Slavic pagan festival celebrating summer solstice with traditional rituals, jumping over bonfires, flower wreaths, folk music, and dancing. Held in parks and open-air museums like Dudutki.

Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk
