Getting Around Belarus 2026

Transport in Belarus decoded — what to use for which journey, and what each option costs.

Belarus, the 'Land of Blue Lakes and Green Forests,' offers a unique blend of Soviet heritage, medieval castles, and pristine natural landscapes. From the vibrant capital of Minsk to the ancient fortress of Brest, this Eastern European nation presents an authentic, off-the-beaten-path travel experience with rich traditions and warm hospitality.

Public
Minsk has an excellent Soviet-built metro system with 29 stations, extensive bus, trolleybus, and tram networks. Very cheap at $0.60/ride. Covers virtually all tourist destinations within Minsk.
Taxi
Yandex Taxi and BelkaTaxi apps offer safe, affordable rides. Average city fare $3-8. English interfaces available on apps. Much better value and reliability than flagging taxis on street.
Rental
Useful for day trips to Mir Castle, Nesvizh, and Belovezhskaya Pushcha. International companies available at airport. Not recommended for city exploration due to good public transport.
Walking
Minsk city center is very walkable. Independence Avenue, Old Town, and Trinity Hill are all connected on foot. Flat terrain and wide Soviet-era boulevards make walking pleasant in good weather.
