Narrow historic lanes with tall old houses, conch-shell craft workshops and weavers' streets.
Shankhari Bazar is the old Hindu conch-shell cutting quarter, and nearby Tanti Bazar is the weavers' quarter, both in the historic core of Old Dhaka. The narrow lanes, worn facades and workshops provide strong compositions, best photographed on weekday mornings when light falls into the lanes and workshops are in operation. The lanes are crowded and carts pass at speed, so keep aware. Ask permission before photographing workers and their workshops, and expect that a small purchase is appreciated. Tripods are impractical; use high ISO and a wide, fast lens. Leave before dusk, as lighting is poor and lanes become harder to navigate. Coordinates are approximate for the quarter.
