Bargaining tips
Negotiate like a local.
Bargaining is expected and accepted in Manama Souk, Muharraq Souk, and Friday Market — always start at 50-60% of the asking price for non-fixed goods
Gold and pearls are priced by weight and international rates; large discounts are unlikely but small reductions on making charges are negotiable
Prices in malls and branded stores are fixed — do not attempt to bargain in modern retail environments
Shop later in the day when vendors are more motivated to sell; late afternoon is often the best time for negotiating in the souk
Friendly small talk before bargaining builds rapport and often leads to better deals — ask about the item's origins to show genuine interest
If a vendor won't budge on price, thank them politely and begin to walk away — this often triggers a better offer
