Erebuni Fortress occupies Arin Berd hill in the Erebuni district of southern Yerevan, Armenia. Founded in 782 BC by the Urartian king Argishti I, it is the settlement from which the city traces its origins. The hilltop offers a layered frame: reconstructed mud-brick walls, columned halls and excavated foundations in the foreground, the flat Ararat Plain stretching south, and the twin peaks of Mount Ararat rising beyond on clear days.

The orientation gives Ararat in the south-south-east, so sunrise light comes from the left of the mountain and sunset light from the right, both producing warm tones on the ruins. Sunrise is often clearest, before haze builds over the plain, while sunset gives long shadows across the excavated walls. April to June and September to October bring the best visibility and mild temperatures; midsummer is hot and hazy, and winter can offer crisp air and snow on the peaks. The site is relatively quiet outside tour-bus hours, so tripod positions on the open terraces are rarely contested, though groups visit mid-morning. Visitors pay a small admission fee for the fortress and its museum; staff opening hours should be confirmed locally, as sunrise entry may not be available and some photographers shoot from the roadside viewpoints on the hill instead. Tripods are generally acceptable on the open grounds if they do not block paths, and drones are restricted given the proximity to Yerevan airport's airspace. A wide-angle lens captures the ruins and landscape together, while a telephoto lens compresses Ararat against the plain. The walk from the car park to the walls is short but uphill, and a small museum and shop on site provide restrooms and water.
