Llao Llao Hotel & Resort

The Llao Llao Hotel and Resort sits at kilometre 25 of Avenida Ezequiel Bustillo on a wooded promontory above Lake Moreno and Lake Nahuel Huapi in San Carlos de Bariloche, Río Negro province. Its alpine setting — framed by the Andes and Patagonian forest — has made it Argentina's most iconic mountain resort since the current building was completed in 1940, rebuilt after a fire destroyed an earlier structure on the same promontory. The property takes its name from the llao llao fungus that grows on local Patagonian cypress trees. Bariloche's commercial centre lies 25 kilometres east, reachable by road in approximately 35 minutes, while Bariloche Airport is 15 kilometres from the resort.

The Normandy-inspired wood-and-stone architecture integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Interior common areas feature vaulted timber ceilings, stone fireplaces, and colonial-era antiques. The hotel accommodates guests in 205 rooms and suites distributed across the main building and separate chalets, with many units offering floor-to-ceiling windows framing panoramas of both lakes and the Andes. Three restaurants serve different dining experiences: the main dining room offers formal dinners featuring Patagonian trout, venison, and wild mushrooms; the terrace grill operates during warmer months; and the café serves informal lunches and afternoon chocolate caliente.

An 18-hole golf course winds through forest and meadow along the lakeshore, rated among the most scenic in South America. The spa includes an indoor heated pool with mountain views, Turkish bath, sauna, and a treatment menu covering hydrotherapy and stone massage. Outdoor activities available directly from the resort include trekking, cycling, fishing, kayaking on the adjacent lakes, and a ski shuttle service to the Cerro Catedral ski resort during the austral winter (June–September).
